Summary of medium conventions (for each of your different texts)

There are a variety of codes and conventions that re tied to media texts and publications that define them and differentiate them from one another, and even more specific with the horror genre. Magazine front covers, film posters, and film trailers in this, and the following are tied to each.

Trailer
- Disruption of normality
- Titles are shown mainly at the end
- Music, indicating a frightful moment
- Isolated location
- Action is interrupted with credits on screen
- Dramatic camera angles show the character more
- Commonly used dialogue
- Dark scary atmosphere
- There is always a protagonist and a victim
- Shows the well known actors
- High pitch screaming, and dialogue
- Battle of good vs evil
- Shows the best bits of the film to attract the viewers
- Sudden signs of ghosts/the evil/spirits

My film trailer contains most of the above. After watching my film trailer you will see that I have a few titles throughout it, this is because I want the audience to feel the suspense. Also the titles towards the end show when it's out and that you can buy it on DVD and Blueray. You can clearly see that it is set in an isolated location due to there been no one else around. The victim screams but no one comes to rescue her. The action is most certainly interrupted by the titles on the screen. You can clearly see that there is a protagonist and a victim. Throughout the trailer you can her footsteps, breathing and screams, these are all used in real life media texts. Because a film trailer doesn't give away all the scenes to the film, you can see that only a few scenes have been chosen to be seen in the trailer. The masked man pops up every now and again in the video this is so that the audience jump out of their seats.

Poster
- Small titles, generally at the bottom of the poster
- Release date
- Low lighting to disguise characters
- Use of one large image to grab the audiences attention
- Captions
- Anchorage
- Black, red and white colour scheme
- Rule of thirds
- 'Coming soon'

My poster has all of the above conventions on it, this is because I want it to look as real as possible. I have chosen the most popular colour scheme for horrors which is red, black and white. I think these are the most popular because black gives of a spooky ambiance, red has the conventions of danger, death and blood and white makes people think of the unknown, spirits and ghosts. I have used a large image of the evil character to spook people. I made sure that he was looking straight at the camera, I want him to draw the audience in.

Website
- Film trailer preview
- Colour scheme of black, red and white
- Release date
- Information about the film
- Cast list
- Star ratings
- Music in the background
- Advertisements
- Links
- Images from the film

After looking through the pages of my website, I can see that it has all the conventions of a real life website apart from the spooky ambiance of music in the background. I will try and figure out a way of putting this music onto my website. If this cannot be done, it doesn't matter as it has the rest of the conventions. The horror colour scheme has been carried on from the poster to the website to show continuity. On my website you can see that it has star rating for popular film producers and directors. There are also lots of images from the film.
